The Purdy Group was founded in 1991, by Richard L. Purdy. During those early years we focused on manufacturing companies since our roots where formed there. Our background stretched over 30 years in founding, growing and selling manufacturing companies.

Today we spend the majority of our time as Business Intermediaries (Merger and Acquisition) specialists. We have grown over the last 13 years and now work with manufacturing, distributing and many types of service companies. We offer a broad range of services including: Business Valuations, Machinery & Equipment Appraisal, Business Brokerage and Targeted Acquisition Searches for industry and private equity buyers.

The Purdy Group is an active member of the IBBA (International Business Brokers Association), IBA (Institute of Business Appraisers), NEBBI (National Equipment and Business Brokers Institute), CVBBA (Carolinas-Virginia Business Brokers Association) and the New York Association of Business Brokers. We network with other business intermediaries here in the US and several other countries.

Our Mission

The Purdy Group will direct our energy, our experience, our technology, and our financial resources to produce a quality result. We are committed to accomplish this in a Competent, Competitive, Confidential and Courteous manner. Our engagements are performed on a fee paid basis. A nominal retainer is required for most engagements.

Services to Seller Clients

" Our Seller client engagements start with a brief consultation with the majority shareholder(s). During this meeting we attempt to gather preliminary information about the company and its operations. We will then provide the client with an outline plan that covers the general scope of our efforts. We will advise the cost to accomplish the task, the time it will require, the extent of the client's participation, and the result we expect to achieve. Typically this proposal includes three major elements;

  • Market Valuation; The Purdy Group will provide the client with a complete report on the present market value of the enterprise. Factors involved include; detailing the history, growth rate, management, competition, profits, potential, assets, patents, good will and many others. This gives the Client a view of where they fit amongst similar firms in the industry and how they will be valued.
  • Marketing Plan; We will develop and promote the sale of the business consistent with the wishes of our client. We arrange buyer screenings, plant visits by prospective buyers at times convenient to the client; facilitate negotiations, all while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Professional Team Interface; We will work with our client's team of advisors. If requested by the client, we will refer an Attorney and or Accounting firms experienced with such transactions.

Services for Buyer Clients

Our Buyer clients retain The Purdy Group to perform Targeted Acquisition Searches. We meet with the client initially to develop the parameters of the search. The client usually has very specific criteria and together we discuss and refine the description and specifications of the acquisition candidate. Frequently our client defines several critical elements such as geography, sales volume, or market niche that must be met. Considering this information we will respond with a fee proposal for the search and a fee schedule for any resulting transaction.

Once our search is underway, there is constant communication with the client. We bring forth various prospects for discussions usually at the prospect's facilities. Because of our unique techniques and approach to the search process, The Purdy Group has had a very high success rate in this type of work. We view the buyer client as a very desirable client because we place a high value on repetitive activity.

We are a small, energetic group with significant business experience. Our knowledge was forged in the manufacturing sector but today we handle distribution and service businesses as well. Our results are tailored to our clients, timely, and cost efficient.

We network with our colleagues and fellow professionals for ideas, sources and services. We utilize trade associations and many industry contacts when needed.

 

There is constant communication amongst The Purdy Group staff, and between our client and their team. Our success is not the result of magic but rather, the result of good hard work, common sense and PERSISTENCE!
